Our take

Daim Blond takes its name from the French word for suede, and Serge Lutens even names a note Daim in the formula, but what actually reaches the nose first is powder. Christopher Sheldrake built this around iris and apricot, so the suede idea stays a soft memory of hide rather than the material itself. Cardamom and hawthorn add a dry, slightly bitter edge on top, cutting the apricot's sweetness down to something drier and more restrained.

Musk and more iris settle into the base, powdery through and through, with the lactonic quality giving it a creamy, almost milky softness. The floral accord stays abstract and diffuse, closer to scented powder on skin than to a bouquet of any one flower.

Sillage settles into a modest bubble, the kind caught by whoever shares an elevator. Longevity holds to an unremarkable but honest middle stretch, distinct for a while before it thins toward almost nothing. This suits someone who wants softness with a little bit of edge, comfortable and easy to wear in cooler weather without leaning hard toward either masculine or feminine. Anyone expecting an assertive, musky leather built around actual hide should look toward a different Lutens altogether.
