The birch opens with a sharp edge that feels a little thin before the rest of the composition catches up. It sits in the cold air outside a small roadside cafe where the windows are fogged from the heat inside. Someone is standing near the door with a cup of dark coffee in one hand and a cigarette in the other. The smoke from the tobacco blends with the steam rising from the drink, and the birch note settles into that mix instead of standing apart from it.
The coffee and tobacco take over quickly, but the oud underneath keeps the air heavy and resinous. It smells like leather seats in a car that has been parked under a streetlamp all evening, warm from the heater and soaked in wood. The sweetness in the accord is quiet, wrapped in the spicy dryness of the tobacco leaves and the deep, woody weight of the agarwood. There is a faint smokiness that clings to the collar of a wool coat, matching the scent of the burning tip of the cigarette that glows each time it is drawn.
