The thuja note emerges in the middle, a green, slightly medicinal woodiness that keeps the balsams from becoming cloying. As it dries down, the woody accord hardens into something drier and more aromatic, the powdery resin settling against the skin like a fine grit of frankincense dust and wood shavings. The overall character conjures one vivid image: a hermit’s workbench in a pine forest, scattered with chunks of amber, dried herbs, and a jar of gum resin.
