Our take

Kujira Densetsu opens with a brisk, peppery snap from timur and pepper, softened immediately by the green, resinous scent of boxwood and the anise lift of fennel. Shiso adds a cool, herbal edge that keeps the entrance fresh rather than hot. The heart moves into a salty, marine character through laminaria and seaweed, where rhododendron and mimosa provide a pale, pollen-heavy floral softness. Coleus twists the green theme into something leafy and slightly bitter, preventing the florals from becoming too rounded.

In the base, violet leaf and patchouli ground the composition with a damp, earthy green that feels close to soil after rain. Ambergris and Thailand oud add a resinous, woody depth that stays quiet beneath the surface, while the sea notes linger and tie the drydown back to the opening. The overall impression is a fresh, aromatic, and ozonic profile that suits a bright morning near open water, where the air carries salt and the garden is in full leaf. A tall glass vase filled with cold water, a single stem of rhododendron, and a handful of dark seaweed.
