Our take

Pour Lui opens with a brisk slap of lavender and cedar needles, like a barbershop that just got fumigated with absinthe instead of aftershave. That herbal, almost medicinal bite is the handshake. Then the heart steps in with star anise and caraway, and suddenly you are smelling a dusty Eastern European spice market at dusk, all licorice tang and bitter wormwood threading through the air. The drydown pulls back into warm ebony, amber, and oakmoss, a woody base that is soft and powdery, not loud. The overall impression is of a vintage apothecary cabinet, its glass bottles streaked with age, propping open a window to let in a spring breeze.

This is an aromatic that feels more natural and restrained than most mainstream designer offerings. It is not sweet and it is not heavy. The lavender carries a floral softness, but the spices keep it sharp and the oakmoss grounds it in earth. That combination works best in spring and fall, which makes sense given how easily it gets swallowed by heat or cold. It is a daytime scent, a no-nonsense choice for an office or a quiet weekend walk. But the longevity is a real letdown, barely two hours before it fades to a skin scent, and the sillage is polite to the point of invisibility. You will get whiffs of it on your wrist if you press your nose there, but nobody else will.

Who should buy it? Someone who wants an herbal aromatic with a licorice twist, who values composition over projection, and who is willing to reapply. Who should skip it? Anyone hoping for a beast mode crowd pleaser or a heavy winter bomb. This is not that. For the price, it is a well made curiosity with an intriguing spice heart, just not a lasting one. Could a spritz to the collar coax another hour out of it? Possibly, but that is a game you will have to play yourself.
