Our take

Shine by Ajmal opens with a burst of syrupy strawberry and pomegranate, the kind of glossy, candy-sweet fruit that feels more like a lip gloss than a freshly cut berry. The heart pitches in peony and lily-of-the-valley, but these florals are heavily powdered, dusted over the fruit like a crushed antacid tablet trying to tame the sugar. What you get is a floral fruity scent that never quite decides if it wants to be a fresh spring spritz or a plush, cosseting cloud. The base settles into a blend of powdery notes and soft wood, but the whole composition stays shallow, synthetic in that approachable drugstore way rather than anything niche or complex.

The overall character is a teenager’s vanity table after a sleepover: sticky fruit punch ringed on a mirror, spilled baby powder, a cheap plastic handheld fan. It feels sweet and light, but the sweetness clings like a film, never developing much depth. With longevity hovering around three out of five and sillage a modest three, Shine fades to a close skin scent within a few hours. It is perfect for a daytime errand in spring or early autumn, worn by someone who wants to smell pretty and uncomplicated. Those who crave real fruit, real florals, or any sort of shadow should skip it entirely. This is an innocent, fleeting sparkle, not a lasting glow.
