Our take

Wood and Absinth opens with a sharp, herbal slap of absinthe and clary sage that feels less like a cocktail and more like a bruised green stem snapped in a cool forest. The bitterness is deliberate, almost medicinal, before palisander rosewood softens it with a rosy, peppery warmth. Jasmine whispers in the background, never sweet enough to tilt into florals, just a ghost of pollen that keeps the composition from turning entirely dry. The base settles into vetiver and cedar, cleanly earthy, with the cedar lending a sun-dried texture that clings to the skin like splinters after handling old lumber.

Its overall character is a painted-over workshop window: hazy light filtered through dust and faded green glass. This is not a loud fragrance. The sillage sits close, a private cloud of aromatic bitterness and soft spice, and the longevity disappoints at under three hours before retreating into a woody whisper. That restraint makes it ideal for the shoulder seasons, especially spring and autumn, when you want a scent that punctuates without announcing itself. The numbers don’t lie; this is for the person who values atmosphere over projection.

Wear it on a late-morning walk when the air still holds yesterday’s rain, or to a quiet café where no one will ask what you’re wearing. Skip it if you crave sweetness, creaminess, or any form of crowd-pleasing amber. Wood and Absinth is a beautifully flawed meditation on green and wood, a short-lived vignette that leaves you wanting just one more hour. Maybe that’s the point.
