Our take

Zeta by Morph opens with a jolt of raw cacao, not the milky sweet kind but the brittle, almost dusty powder you scrape from the edge of a grinder. It’s gritty and unsweetened, and for a moment you think you’re in for a gourmand ride. Then the ambergris arrives, briny and warm, like a tide pulling that chocolate out to sea and leaving it to cure on sunbaked rocks. The drydown is pure bitter almond, sharp and nutty with a faint medicinal edge that keeps the whole thing from tipping into dessert territory. The overall effect is a single vivid image: a driftwood log washed ashore after a storm, crusted with salt and half-melted chocolate.

This is not a light or polite fragrance. It’s dense, animalic, and slightly feral, with the balsamic and warm spicy accords adding a resinous heat underneath. The projection is moderate (3.41) and the longevity is respectable (3.88), meaning it won’t shout across a room but will cling to your collar into evening. Where it truly shines is fall, winter, and spring; summer’s heat turns the cacao cloying and the ambergris swampy. Wear it to a dimly lit dinner, a rainy afternoon walk, or any moment you want to feel like you’ve crawled out of a cave with something feral and precious in your pocket.

This is for the person who likes their sweetness laced with salt and their comfort punctuated by a prick of bitterness. Skip it if you prefer clean laundry or fruity florals, or if you’re expecting a straightforward chocolate bar. Zeta is a mood, not a treat.
