Our take

Fendi 2004 opens with a citrus slap that is more Sicilian sun than juice, the mandarin and neroli bright and slightly bitter, while freesia adds a clean, almost soapy edge. But the heart is where this fragrance shows its hand, a lush, indolic gardenia and tiare flower that lean into that animalic warmth listed in the accords. The iris dusts everything with a powdery, retro lipstick haze, and then the base drags you into a sticky amber-vanilla embrace, the sandalwood giving it a soft, woody frame.

This is a white floral that has been left out in the heat too long, wilting in the most seductive way. It feels dated but not dusty, a plush, synthetic-sweet oriental that sits close to the skin after an hour or two, which matches the middling longevity and modest sillage. It is perfectly suited for a fall afternoon or a cool winter evening, worn by someone who wants to smell like a vintage compact mirror warmed by a pocket. But if you prefer crisp, modern florals or anything with a green bite, skip it. This is a perfume that stays in its lane, creamy and a little heavy, demanding a certain patience for that final vanilla-sandalwood sigh.
