Our take

It opens with a blade of saffron and a tart, almost metallic snap from rose hip, thyme adding a green herbal bite that keeps things from tipping into syrup. The heart blooms with a full Bulgarian rose that feels crushed rather than candied, incense and jasmine weaving a hazy, church-like warmth around it. As it dries down, the oud rises dark and leathery, patchouli dusting everything in a dry, balsamic earth. The overall effect is a rose that has been worn against leather and left in a stone temple overnight — elegant, but not clean.

This is a woody spicy fragrance that leans niche in its refusal to soften its contradictions. There is a metallic sheen running through the saffron and rose hip that some will read as sharp, and the incense keeps it sacred rather than romantic. It feels moderately heavy, suited to cool air, and the longevity and sillage land just north of average — three to four hours of noticeable presence before it settles close. It will not fill a room, but it will linger on a coat collar.

Best for fall and winter evenings, ideally after dark when the smoky, balsamic facets can stretch. It suits someone who wants a regal, introspective rose, not a date-night sweetheart. Skip it if you prefer your oud gooey or your florals dewy. This is a rose with its thorns still on.
