Our take

Collistar’s Acqua Wood opens with a bright, peppery citrus snap—lemon leaf and bergamot spiked with black pepper, sharp as morning light through a crack in the shutter. It’s the kind of start that promises a hike through damp conifer forest, but the heart quickly settles into a mineral, aromatic haze of ambroxan, sage, and lavender softened by labdanum’s faint resinous sweetness. On skin, the woody base of cedar, guaiac wood, sandalwood, and clean musk emerges as the ghost of a bark plank left to dry in the shade—pleasant, quiet, and already fading.

This is a fragrance that thinks it’s a walk in the woods, but behaves more like a polite nod from a bench at the edge of a public park. The composition is smooth and competent, if deliberately restrained. Daphné Bugey crafted a woody aromatic that feels mainstream in execution but with a slightly niche-mineral heart. Yet here’s the rub: with a longevity of 2.83 and sillage of 2.39, Acqua Wood evaporates before it can even begin a proper conversation. On a 90-degree day it might last an hour; fall at 100% seasonality is its true home, where the cool air lets those soft woods linger a touch longer.

Who wears this? The man who wants an office-friendly scent that won’t announce his arrival or outstay his welcome. Perfect for a midday meeting or a chilled Sunday brunch. But if you crave presence, skip it. As a snapshot, it’s a satisfying watercolor sketched on fogged glass—and then the sun comes out.
