Acqua di Giò Profondo Lights
Fragrance notes
Character
Acqua di Giò Profondo Lights opens with a sharp, almost brittle green mandarin, its citrus scraped clean by cardamom’s aromatic spice and a briny sea note that smells like crushed oyster shells on a wet boardwalk. It’s not the deep, brooding Mediterranean of the original—this is a coastal morning where the fog hasn’t quite burned off yet. The heart wrestles rosemary and lavender extract into a resinous tangle with balsam fir and cypress, but the mastic lends a faint, dusty church-pew dryness that keeps it from floating away into generic freshie territory. On skin, the cedar and vetiver base is polite, almost apologetic; patchouli barely registers. The whole thing feels like a stiff breeze that passes in under three hours, leaving behind only a ghost of woody salt. Alberto Morillas and Firmenich have crafted a perfectly pleasant spring and summer scent, but with sillage hovering near 2.6 and longevity barely scraping a 3.2, it evaporates faster than a spilled espresso on hot asphalt. It suits the guy who wants a clean, aromatic aquatic without any heavy ambers or gourmand sweetness—someone who doesn’t mind reapplying after lunch. But if you crave presence, or if your day stretches beyond noon, look elsewhere. Where the original Profondo felt like diving into a cold blue wave, this is the wave receding before you can get your feet wet.
