Bergamot and bergamot leaf open Armani Code Parfum with a citrus that's more bitter peel than sweet juice, sharpened by a sharp aldehydic fizz right from the start. Iris and clary sage take over in the heart, powdery and a little cool, with orris deepening the iris into something closer to violet-tinted suede than a simple floral note. The citrus never fully leaves, resurfacing faintly even once the iris takes charge.
Tonka bean and cedar carry the base, tipping the fragrance toward something warm and slightly sweet, though the powdery iris never fully disappears even once the wood settles in.
Composed by Antoine Maisondieu, it leans elegant over loud, and it keeps developing well, the cedar and tonka still readable long after the citrus opening has gone quiet. The scent stays contained near the wearer, felt mainly by whoever stands close, understated rather than assertive.
Night wear and cooler months suit it best, and the fragrance handles both day and evening occasions without feeling out of place in either. It rewards a preference for iris-forward masculines that trade citrus freshness for something more powdery and composed.
