Our take

Tuberose is a heavy flower to put in the top of a fragrance, but Emporio Armani Lei opens with it anyway, alongside lime, bergamot, pear, mandarin orange and pineapple, so the whole thing comes across bright and fruity before the flower has a chance to turn heady. The fruit accord is generous here, almost syrupy in the first few minutes, before the citrus reins it back in. There's a slightly candied quality to the pineapple in particular, giving the top a playful edge before the flowers arrive.

Heliotrope, orris root, jasmine and lily-of-the-valley soften the heart into a powdery floral stretch, neither a quick fade nor a marathon on skin, comfortably in between the two. By the base, almond and tonka bean bring a warm, faintly marzipan sweetness against sandalwood, musk, cedar and amber, the woods giving the sweetness a bit of structure underneath.

Its presence forms a gentle, close-in halo, easy for whoever you're talking to to catch, though it never pushes past that range. Its strongest seasons are fall and winter, best caught in daylight when the citrus-almond balance comes through clearest against cold air.
