Our take

Etruscan Water opens with a burst of grapefruit and bergamot that feels almost brittle, a citrus snap quickly veering into the aromatic tangle of basil and petitgrain. The heart is where this fragrance gets its spine: orris and immortelle, that honeyed straw note, huddle together with a caraway spice that pricks the nose like tiny needles. Then the drydown settles into a mossy, ambery base of oakmoss, labdanum, and a surprisingly clean vetiver. The ambergris here isn’t animalic and briny, but more like a salted caramel left in a cool drawer.

The overall character is a limestone quarry after a spring rain, where the rock still holds the warmth of the sun but the air is damp with crushed herbs and dusty iris root. It feels natural and deeply complex, unmistakably niche, and leans more aromatic and earthy than sweet. The longevity is solid at a four out of five, though the sillage hangs closer to moderate, which is a deliberate choice: this fragrance breathes near the skin rather than shouting across a room. It suits someone who prefers their scents cerebral, who wants to smell like a preserved fresco rather than a fresh cocktail. Skip it if you demand projection or if immortelle’s syrupy edge turns you off. Wear it on a cool spring morning, maybe a fall afternoon, when the light is low and you’re in no hurry to be noticed.
