Our take

Blondine opens with a strangely tender clash: green mandarin and pear leaf flash bitter and bright, but almost immediately a slick, buttery warmth rolls in like warm milk spilling over a tablecloth. The Tyger Lily and Ashoka flower are there, but they feel padded, wrapped in suede and caramel, a floral that has been dipped in dessert. It develops into something powdery and lactonic, with cacao and tonka softening every edge, while a faint salt and castoreum lick at the base to keep it from collapsing into pure confection. The whole thing reminds me of a silk slip stained with tea and honey, still warm from a body that just left the room.

This is a sweet fragrance, but not a cheap one. It is natural enough, with Yann Vasnier’s usual polish, but the sillage is stubbornly close to the skin, hovering at just under three stars, and the longevity taps out after a few hours. You have to lean in to catch it, which feels frustrating given the richness of the notes. Who is this for? Someone who wants a whisper of edible leather, a gourmand that stays intimate, best worn in spring or fall when the air can carry its soft haze without turning cloying. Skip it if you demand projection or if animalic butter notes make you queasy. Wear it to a brunch where you plan to sit close and talk slowly.
