Our take

You know that shimmering, slightly overheated feeling of stepping out of a Beverly Hills boutique with a shopping bag that weighs more than your rent? That is 273 Rodeo Drive in a bottle. It opens with a thick, candied blast of tuberose and gardenia, the peach and plum pushing the florals into something juicy and almost narcotic. The heart folds in apricot and ylang-ylang over a soft orris root powder, and the whole thing settles into a base of amber and warm spices, sandalwood and cedar that feels like sunbaked leather seats. It is sweet, heavy, and unapologetically synthetic in the best late-eighties way, a butter-yellow floral that wears its richness like a fur coat in July. The longevity and sillage are respectable but not monstrous, which feels right, because this fragrance does not need to shout to remind you of its presence. It suits someone who wants to smell like a luxury hotel lobby at dusk, all velvet and white flowers and something animalic lurking in the corners. Skip it if you prefer transparent, minimalist scents or if ripe tuberose gives you a headache. Wear it when the weather cools, draped in cashmere, and let it do its slow, powdery, slightly dusty dance. Why would you want to smell like fresh laundry when you could smell like a golden-age soap opera?
