Hundred Silent Ways

Tuberose gets top billing in Hundred Silent Ways, arriving softened by peach and mandarin orange instead of pushed hard and waxy. Mandarin orange adds a juicy brightness against the tuberose, easing it away from anything waxy right from the start. Gardenia and jasmine thicken the white floral core at the heart, and orris brings a powdery, slightly cool edge against all that sweetness.

There's a faint animalic warmth running under the florals too, giving the sweetness a slightly skin-like, less polished edge, before vanilla, sandalwood and vetiver bring the base down into something drier and woodier than the opening promised. Vetiver in particular gives the base a slightly bitter, earthy pull against the vanilla's sweetness.

The base holds on well, still present long after the tuberose and peach have faded from the top, and what projection there is stays modest, noticed mainly by whoever's close at hand. Fall and winter weather, where the data shows this performing best, let the woody, slightly animalic drydown come forward.
