A velvet lounge thick with smoke and low conversation sets the right stage. Hyacinth and bergamot cut through the heavy air with a crisp, green bite, while a squeeze of orange keeps the opening from feeling too severe. It smells expensive in the way dark wood and polished stone feel expensive. The heart settles into a lush, slightly powdery floral blend. Bulgarian rose lends a deep, red-wine richness, but the peony keeps it from becoming a dense, old-fashioned muddle. There is a distinct texture here: the petals feel crushed rather than fresh.
Composed by Shadi Samra, the base is where the atmosphere truly thickens. Oud and amber provide a resinous, animalic weight that pulls the entire composition toward the dramatic. White musk attempts to soften the edges, but the woodiness remains the dominant force. This scent is undeniably bold and possesses a heavy, synthetic projection that might overwhelm a smaller room. It is a polarizing blend because the oud is sharp and medicinal rather than smooth. The drydown eventually turns dusty and stiff, leaving a slightly sour film on the skin that never quite resolves into comfort.
