Our take

Pepper and rose open Sensuous Noir with a warm, faintly sharp bite, joined quickly by jasmine, and the spice never quite lets go for the rest of the wear. Pine and guaiac wood move in through the heart, giving the whole thing a resinous, forest-adjacent edge, so the rose reads dense and dark, not delicate.

Patchouli deepens that darkness further, and by the base the fragrance has moved into amber, benzoin, vanilla and honey, warm and a little sticky-sweet without turning into a straightforward gourmand. Annie Buzantian composed the blend, and the fragrance leans unmistakably nocturnal: the season pattern backs that up too, worn almost entirely in fall and winter.

Staying power is genuinely long-lasting, the warm, spiced shape holding firm long after application. Sillage keeps a tidy, warm radius around the wearer, felt clearly by whoever ends up close.

This suits someone who wants a proper cold-weather oriental, spicy, resinous and a little sweet, worn to dinner or on an evening when the temperature actually calls for it. Anyone hoping for something quiet or easy to layer under office clothes should look elsewhere.
