Costume National I
Fragrance notes
Character
You spray Costume National I and the first thing you get is thyme, sharp and aromatic, with saffron’s dusty, almost metallic sweetness and a cold bergamot peel. It feels like stepping into a cabinet where dried herbs hang beside a leather satchel. The thyme holds nerve, preventing the saffron from turning syrupy. Then lavender and geranium rise, but this isn’t your grandfather’s fougère. The labdanum adds a honeyed, resinous warmth that softens the herbs into something more animalic, more skin-like. The dry down is where it settles into its real character: ambroxan and cedar give a clean, slightly salty woodiness, while the leather note is present but buffed, not raw. It’s the smell of a motorcycle jacket that’s been stored in a cedar chest next to a bag of dried lavender. The overall feel is refined, modern, and deliberately restrained. Sillage is polite, never shouting, and longevity settles into a comfortable six hours on skin, which is fair for a scent this composed. It’s synthetic in the way a sharp suit is tailored: precisely, not cheaply. This fragrance suits someone who wants a leather scent that doesn’t demand attention, one that works in an office or a cool autumn evening dinner. Skip it if you crave smoked hides or beast-mode projection. Wear it for spring afternoons and fall nights, when you want to smell like you own a very good jacket, not like you wrestled a bison.
