Our take

Indian Vanilla by ATTAR. Alma de Perfume opens with a prickly pink pepper that can feel sharp against the soft orange blossom. Bitter almond in the heart leans dry rather than creamy, which may surprise anyone expecting a sugar-heavy gourmand. Licorice adds a cool, faintly medicinal edge that keeps the jasmine from turning lush. Tonka bean rounds the center with a gentle warmth, but the blend never fully settles into comfort. The cashmere wood and patchouli in the base feel more synthetic than earthy, giving the vanilla a plastic sheen that some will find distracting. It suits someone who likes white florals with a spicy bite and does not mind a slightly artificial finish. Those who prefer natural-smelling woods or a purely edible vanilla should look elsewhere.

A scarf pulled up against a crisp breeze carries this scent best. The balsamic and amber accords glow against wool and denim in that weather. It feels at home in a café with steam fogging the windows and leaves scattered on the pavement outside. The musky drydown sits close without demanding attention, fitting quiet weekends and slow mornings. Rosario Escobar composed a fragrance that stays in the oriental vanilla lane while letting the pepper and licorice do most of the talking. It is sweet, but the spice and almond keep it from becoming a dessert scent. Picture a clay bowl filled with vanilla pods, a few cracked pink peppercorns, and a single dark licorice root resting on a wooden table.
