Unheimlich is not a scent for those who want to blend into polite company. The cumin and cacao pod clash with the birch tar and leather, creating a thick, oily atmosphere that can feel aggressively unwashed if the skin is too warm. Mark Buxton composed this WienerBlut release to be a challenging experience, and the castoreum and civet ensure it stays firmly in the realm of the animalic. The red pepper and cardamom try to lift the heavy amber and opoponax, but the costus and vetiver root the fragrance in a damp, earthy reality. Jasmine sambac and iris offer a fleeting floral whisper that gets swallowed by the smoky, musky weight of the ambergris. You are standing in a dimly lit, wood-paneled library where the air is stale and heavy with old tobacco smoke, the scent clinging to a worn velvet armchair that has seen decades of use. The warmth of the room amplifies the spicy cacao and the sharp bite of the tar, mixing with the dust of the shelves while the lavender struggles to find a path through the dense, fur-like layers of the scent
