Our take

This opens with a disarming floral slap: rose and violet dusted with bergamot and orange flower, all powdery and nearly pretty. But the cruelty arrives fast. The heart is a tarred, smoky oud and guaiac wood with papyrus lending a papery sting, and the base drags you down into a leathery, castoreum-laced vanilla and styrax amber that feels like velvet stretched over a blade. It’s a scent of a boudoir that doubles as an interrogation room. One specific image comes to mind: a dried rose pinned to a leather corset, the petals crumbling each time you inhale.

The texture is dense and synthetic in a deliberate way, not airy or natural, and it sits close to the skin for most of its moderate lifespan, though it projects best in the first hour. The sillage numbers (3.13) are honest; this isn’t a room-filler, it’s a personal zone of quiet menace. It suits a confident wearer who enjoys a touch of noir glamour, but if you shy from animalic leather or rubbery oud, move along. Best reserved for cool evenings, especially fall and winter nights when its dry warmth can settle without suffocating. The main weakness is that the floral opening feels like a brief apology for the darkness to come, and the longevity (3.69) could be more stubborn for the price. Worth the cruelty? Only if you like your roses splintered, not watered.
