Our take

Autour du Coquelicot has a problem with its heart. The red poppy and tuberose arrive with a heavy, waxy texture that can feel dense against the skin. This richness is not for everyone, as the floral weight sometimes pushes the brighter tangerine and citrus opening into the background too quickly. Composed by Shyamala Maisondieu, this Orlane scent carries a cardamom spark that tries to lift the composition, but the osmanthus and rose hold a steady, deep sweetness that defines the wear.

The benzoin and tonka bean in the base create a warm, resinous trail that stays near the body. It is a scent that walks with you through a sunlit morning rather than announcing itself from across a room, letting the coriander and musk keep the presence personal. The fruity black currant adds a tart edge, yet the overall impression remains a soft, amber-tinged floral that feels suited to someone who enjoys a scent that does not demand attention but simply accompanies the day.

Despite the beautiful blend of spicy and floral elements, the tuberose here lacks a certain airiness. It can feel a bit flat and heavy compared to the initial promise of the bright top notes. If you prefer a fragrance where the flowers feel dewy and light, this specific blend might feel too grounded in its own warmth. The density of the heart notes is the one aspect that keeps it from feeling completely effortless.
