Forbidden opens with a glossy, almost edible blast of chocolate and orange, like cracking open a boozy Advent calendar on a cold December morning. The bergamot cuts the sweetness cleanly, but the cherry and vanilla that rush in mid-development are sticky and syrupy, pushed into a powdery, retro sweetness by tonka bean. This is not a shy fragrance. It settles into a base of rum-soaked rose and dark oud, with sandalwood and patchouli lending a woody, slightly animalic backdrop that keeps the whole thing from collapsing into dessert. The ambergris and white musk smooth the edges, but the sillage remains modest at 3.36, which feels right for a scent this dense. Longevity is excellent, easily an eight hour wear.
The overall character is a velvet rope in a speakeasy, plush and forbidden, but the glossy sweetness can feel synthetic in the opening, like cherry cough syrup left in the sun. It leans heavy, sweet, and unapologetically niche, built for winter nights and fall evenings when you want to smell expensive and a little dangerous. This is for someone who wants to be noticed without shouting, who loves gourmands but needs a leathery, smoky counterweight. Skip it if you prefer fresh, airy scents or if the combo of chocolate, cherry, and rose sounds more like a cocktail than a fragrance.
