Our take

By Kilian’s Imperial Tea (2024) opens with a brisk, almost bracing clarity: green tea steeped in bergamot, but with an unexpected twist of seaweed and laminaria that drags the scent into tidepool territory. The marine accord is subtle, not fishy, more like crushed oyster shells mixed with fresh tea leaves. Calice Becker lets the jasmine sambac and mate heart bloom quickly, softening the iodine edge into something powdery and white floral, with freesia adding a clean, papery lift. The drydown is a polite whisper of white musk and moss, vetiver barely registering as a green shadow.

This is a fragrance that evaporates fast. With longevity hovering near 2.8 and sillage barely pushing 2.2, Imperial Tea is less a statement and more a fleeting impression, like the last sip of iced tea on a porch in July when the ice has already melted. It feels natural, airy, and intentionally quiet, a niche take on a gentleman’s cologne crossed with a spa’s green tea candle. It wears best in the humid heat of spring and summer, strictly during daylight hours, where its ephemeral charm feels like a cool breeze rather than a tease.

Who should wear it? Anyone who loves the idea of a tea scent that doesn’t scream “matcha latte” but stays herbal, slightly aquatic, and refined. Skip it if you want projection or an evening companion. This tea is gone before you can pour a second cup.
