You open a bottle of Angel's Share On The Rocks and it hits like a bell jar of frozen citrus: grapefruit rind, bitter orange, lemon peel all shivering against a metallic wash of aldehydes and ice. That blast fades fast, and what emerges is the classic Angel’s Share boozy heart – cognac soaked raisins, cinnamon bark, a ribbon of caramel – but now it feels like the liquid has been poured over crushed ice and left to sweat. The base sinks into a dry, woody warmth of tonka, oak, and cashmere wood, but the myrrh adds a faint churchy resin that keeps things from going full gourmand.
The overall character is a frosted cocktail glass sweating on a mahogany bar, the drink itself sweet and spiced but the rim still cold. It is noticeably lighter and more translucent than the original, which is exactly the point. Unfortunately, the numbers don’t lie: longevity hovers around moderate, and sillage is shy. This is a personal scent, a close hug of boozy sweetness that fades within a few hours on skin. It feels more niche than mainstream in its icy-citrus conceit, but the sweetness keeps it accessible.
