Someone nearby is wearing Maison Alhambra’s Brûlant Oud. It does not arrive all at once. The first impression is bright and slightly bitter, a sharp lift from grapefruit and ginger that quickly gives way to something far more dense. Cumin and saffron warm the air around the wearer, while a trace of cardamom and nutmeg adds a dry, dusty edge. It smells of narrow streets where spices are sold in open sacks and a glass of cognac sits half-finished on a wrought-iron table.
As the night deepens, the fragrance settles into its true character. The heart is not a neat progression of flowers and woods but a deliberate tangle of resin and smoke. Benzoin and myrrh lend a heavy, balsamic sweetness that feels sticky and rich, yet the pistachio and geranium keep it from becoming a straightforward gourmand. There is an unmistakable animalic growl running through the center of this scent. The goat hair tincture is not a subtle background note. It is a visceral, almost challenging presence that brings to mind the scent of warm skin and clean wool. Cinnamon and patchouli swirl together here, dark and slightly medicinal.
The base notes do not so much fade as they sink in. Incense hangs in the air, mixing with the clean, dry scent of sage and the creamy, soft texture of sandalwood. The "skin" note listed in the pyramid feels literal. It smells like the person wearing it, only intensified.
