Pink pepper and mandarin orange give it a brief citrus lift at the start, and then benzoin, vanilla, and patchouli move in underneath, turning the rose warm and balsamic instead of green and sharp.
Longevity sits at a middle point, wearing at a steady pace that never announces itself, and the sillage forms a small, warm ring that carries the rose and amber just past your own collar. Cold evenings suit it, and it wears just as well in the fading light of a cool spring.
Rose skeptics who assume the note has to be feminine or airy should try Moustache before ruling it out, though anyone after real staying power from an oriental woody structure should look for something denser. The patchouli holds on longest of the notes here, turning slightly sweet and dusty as the composition dries down. The impression left behind is the amber and patchouli, a warm resin smell clinging to a wool scarf.
