Our take

Raghba Classic opens with a sticky wave of benzoin and vanilla, thick as honey left too long in the jar. The incense rises quickly, turning the sweetness hazy and solemn, like the last trail of smoke in a cathedral after evening prayer. As it settles, the agarwood and woody notes step forward, dry and slightly acrid, while a briny whisper of ambergris keeps things from tipping into outright dessert territory. The drydown is a soft, smoldering ember, with vanilla clinging to the edges and a faint spicy warmth that never quite leaves.

This is a heavy fragrance, balsamic and syrupy, with a sweetness that feels more synthetic than natural, a common trade off in the budget oriental genre. The sillage is moderate at best, which is actually a kindness, because applied without restraint it becomes a throat coat of vanilla syrup and smoke. Longevity hovers near four hours, respectable for the price but not the all day affair its density promises.

Wear it on freezing winter afternoons when you want to smell like a wooden chest full of old prayer beads and burnt sugar. It suits anyone who loves a loud, sweet oud, but skip it if steamy summer heat or subtlety are your priorities. The appeal is raw and unapologetic, a warm scarab in a frostbitten city.
