Our take

Colors de Benetton opens like a fruit salad tossed into a greenhouse with the lid left off. Pineapple and passionfruit burst first, tart and tropical, but they are quickly shadowed by a dense green slap of basil and hyacinth. Tuberose and jasmine step in with that creamy, indolic richness that 80s orientals did so well, but the real story is underneath. A leathery, almost grimy civet note tangles with opoponax and patchouli, while oakmoss and cedar keep everything from floating away. The dry down is a sweet, slightly animalic vanilla-rose drift, warm but never syrupy.

This is a fragrance that feels like a carnival mask left out in the rain. Bright, cheerful, and a little dirty. It is unmistakably a product of its time, more mainstream than niche, but with a weirdness that prevents it from being boring. The sillage is a whisper, barely a 3 on scale, and longevity hovers around three to four hours, so do not expect to leave a trail. That makes it perfect for a spring afternoon, a solo stroll through a botanical garden, or a casual day at the office where you want a private pleasure. It suits someone who loves vintage opulence and can handle a touch of animal funk. Skip it if you prefer clean, airy scents or need your fragrance to project across a room. It is a quiet oddball, charmingly dated.
