Our take

Bath & Body Works Coconut Pineapple opens with a bright, almost aggressive burst of canned pineapple syrup, the kind that clings to your fingers after you’ve drained the last drop from a Dole cup. Within minutes, the coconut slides in, not the creamy natural kind but a sunblock-tinged, suntan-lotion coconut that smells like a plastic lounge chair by a chlorinated hotel pool. The sugar cane note adds a sticky, candied sweetness that flattens everything into a single saccharine shade of tropical. It dries down into a faint vanilla-laced lactonic haze that is pleasant enough but barely whispers against the skin. This is a fragrance built for instant gratification and nothing else, a piña colada garnished with a cocktail umbrella and forgotten on the pool deck until the ice melts. The main problem is that it vanishes almost as soon as you apply it. With longevity scraping two and a half hours and sillage barely audible, you will be reapplying every chance you get. That makes it a perfect gym bag spritz or a quick mood lift before a warm weather errand, but only if you are willing to babysit it. It suits anyone who wants a no strings attached vacation hit, but skip it if you expect a fragrance to last through dinner or project past your own wrist. After all, how much staying power does a sugar cane straw really have?
