Our take

Aurate opens with a thick, resinous labdanum that feels warm and slightly sticky, joined immediately by a soft jasmine that keeps the resin from becoming too heavy. Vanilla appears right away, not as a bright sugar but as a rounded, creamy sweetness that settles into the skin. The first impression is rich and slightly powdery, with a golden amber glow that feels comforting rather than playful.

As the fragrance develops, sandalwood emerges to smooth the edges of the resin. The wood is polished and milky, giving the composition a calm, steady center. Leather enters the heart with a supple, slightly dry texture that adds a quiet strength to the sweet and woody blend. There is a balsamic depth here that makes the air feel denser, like walking through a dimly room where the air is warm and still.

The musky undertones wrap the entire composition in a soft, slightly fuzzy blanket. It is a scent that suits a black wool coat and a quiet street after the sun has gone down. The vanilla repeats in the base, tying the opening directly to the drydown so the fragrance feels seamless from start to finish. It is sweet, but the leather and spice keep it grounded and mature.

The problem is that the leather and the spice are too timid. The sandalwood and vanilla dominate so completely that the edgier notes barely register, leaving the fragrance feeling a bit too safe and predictable for those who want a bold statement.
