Our take

Picture a velvet smoking jacket slung over a worn leather armchair, the pockets heavy with dried plum skins and a half-empty glass of cognac. That is Signature Tabac by Zaharoff in a single frame: lavish, boozy, and wrapped in a warm amber haze.

It opens with a spirited slap of cognac and rum, brightened by anise’s licorice edge and the herbal-berry flutter of davana, while lavender keeps it from tipping into frat-party sweetness. Within minutes the tobacco leaf unfurls, dense and honeyed, backed by a restrained oud that adds smokiness without shouting “middle east.” The pimento and balsam fir introduce a gentle peppery greenness, while cedar and sandalwood lock everything into a woody cradle. The drydown is a sticky, resinous embrace of Madagascar vanilla, incense, myrrh, and tonka, with plum adding a jammy fruit tang that keeps the whole thing from turning into a church.

Performance is polite rather than bombastic: longevity sits around four to five hours on skin, and sillage stays close after the first hour, so this is not a room-filler. It feels comfortably niche in composition but accessible in wear, not harshly synthetic. Best suited for cooler months, especially autumn and winter evenings, or a crisp spring night out. Skip it if you hate sweet tobacco or prefer airy citrus scents. Who is it for? Someone who wants to smell like a well-aged library, not a bonfire.
