Ruby Oud
Fragrance notes
Character
The thick velvet curtain of a dim lounge parts just enough to let in a draft of cool night air, and the woman stepping through it carries Ruby Oud. The heat of red chilli pepper hits first, a sharp spark that cuts through the heavy tobacco leaf clinging to her sleeves. Saffron threads its golden, slightly metallic glow through the smoke, while heliotrope softens the edges with a powdery, almond-like haze that floats above the deeper materials. Myrrh adds a resinous weight that feels ancient and polished, sitting comfortably beside the dark, medicinal wood of the oud. There is no rush here. The scent sits in the room like a piece of heavy furniture, the amber and vanilla lending a rounded, caramelized sweetness that never becomes cloying because the vetiver underneath keeps the earth visible.
She settles into a low chair near the unlit fireplace, the sandalwood and labdanum in the base rising as the air around her settles. Musk blurs the boundary between skin and fabric, making the whole composition feel like it grew there rather than being applied. Patchouli leaf adds a green, damp contrast to the balsamic warmth, preventing the sweetness from flattening into a simple dessert. The room feels smaller with the fragrance in it, the spicy accord wrapping around the few people nearby like a heavy throw. Light from the streetlamp outside catches the dust motes dancing in the air, each one carrying a trace of that peppery heat and the deep, woody resin that seems to seep from the walls
