Our take

Gravitas presents a dense mix of citrus and spice. Mandarin orange and sweet orange provide a bright surface, while cardamom, black pepper, nutmeg, and coriander add a sharp, dry heat. Bay leaf brings a green, slightly medicinal edge to the blend. The citrus is prominent but it sits inside a heavy composition rather than leading it.

Coffee, jasmine, and Peru balsam create a dark, resinous heart. The coffee note is earthy and roasted, not sweetened. Benzoin and Atlas cedar add weight and a dry woodiness that sits beneath the spice. The aroma is thick and slightly sticky from the balsamic elements, giving the fragrance a substantial feel on the skin.

The overall impression is warm and amber-heavy, suited to a dim room and a quiet, late evening setting. It feels formal and composed, with the aromatic herbs and woods keeping the sweetness of the orange and benzoin from becoming too soft. The spice is persistent and noticeable throughout the wear, creating a consistent character.

The blend has a drawback in its clarity. The number of notes creates a crowded profile where individual elements are hard to separate. The coffee and the orange sometimes clash with the heavier balsamic base instead of merging cleanly. It can smell slightly muddled, and the synthetic edge in the citrus makes the natural spices feel less distinct than they should be.
