Ikigai by Tesori d’Oriente is a spring morning in a Japanese garden just as the blossoms start to fall, though someone forgot to top up the watering can before the heat set in. It opens with a flash of cherry blossom and peach, fluffy and sweet, with bergamot cutting through like a streak of citrus sunlight. The heart blooms into a bouquet of orange blossom, jasmine, rose and lily of the valley, all white and innocent, powdered like a vintage face compact. Then the base settles into a warm, vanillic amber with a whisper of guaiac wood and patchouli, but the sweetness dominates rather than deepens.
This is a perfectly pleasant, moderately synthetic floral fruit that wears like a cloud of pink shampoo. I wish I could call it delicate, but its performance is a real shortcoming: longevity clocks in under three hours and sillage barely hovers above the skin. You will need to reapply often, which makes the modest price tag feel more forgivable. It is intensely girlish, light and cheerful, an ideal companion for a brunch date or a walk through a blooming park in the spring or early summer. Fans of soft, sweet florals will enjoy it; anyone seeking depth, lasting power, or a statement will find only a whisper. 🌸
