Character
The door to the study swings shut and the room cools. Cypress and Kashmir wood press against the walls first, dry and resinous, while cardamom cracks the air with a bright, green heat. Bergamot and mandarin orange follow, not sweet but sharp, peeling through the heavier woods like sunlight across a dark floor. The space feels deliberate. Vetiver grounds the scene with an earthy pull, and violet drifts upward in a soft, powdery haze that settles on the leather chair and the open book. Musk sits low, blurring the edges of the room so the air feels lived in rather than staged.
Dominique Preyssas composed this 2023 release for Testament London as a woody, aromatic walk through a single evening indoors. The citrus is vivid but the violet leans heavily into powder, and that is where the composition stumbles. On skin the flower turns chalky, muting the crisp cypress and the warm cardamom until the whole scene reads flat. The amber accord adds a faint, indistinct warmth that never quite resolves. It is a fragrance that wants to be atmospheric, yet the balance tips toward a dusty softness that some will find cloying rather than comforting.
