Our take

Talisman opens like a sticky sweet explosion of rum soaked dried fruits and pineapple, all buoyed by a blast of aldehydes that feels both vintage and slightly disorienting. The peach and litchi add a syrupy juiciness while hyacinth and osmanthus keep things from tipping into pure candy. Within minutes the floral heart rises, a dense tangle of jasmine, rose, ylang ylang and carnation that feels pressed rather than airy, as though someone took an entire bouquet and baked it into a fruitcake. The drydown is where Talisman becomes its truest self: beeswax and leather threaded through caramel, vanilla, and a generous scoop of coconut, all resting on a woody amber base with patchouli and cedar. It is a chypre that refuses to be a chypre, sweet to the point of gluttony, yet that animalic leather note keeps it from being purely saccharine.

The numbers tell a fair story. With longevity at 3.68 and sillage at 3.40, this is a moderate presence, not a room filler, which actually suits its personality. It feels like a velvet lined jewelry box that has held a single macaron too long, the scent clinging to the fabric. The voting community rates it at 4.05, and I understand the love even as I note the flaws. It is undeniably synthetic in its fruitiness, that 90s overdose of tropical and boozy top notes, yet the drydown marries beeswax and sandalwood into something almost cosy. It is not niche, it is deeply designer but unafraid to be excessive.
