Our take

Aram opens with a sharp, medicinal edge that some will find difficult to accept. The ammonia note in the heart cuts through the grapefruit and frankincense, creating a scent that smells more like a clinical laboratory than a perfume counter for the first few minutes. This harsh introduction is a genuine hurdle that requires patience from the wearer.

The resinous top of elemi and labdanum anchors the citrus, preventing the grapefruit from smelling like a standard bathroom cleaner. Green tea and damask rose attempt to soften the tobacco, though the acácia adds a dry, hay-like texture that keeps the blend feeling rugged. Vetiver and cedar in the base provide a sturdy foundation, allowing the benzoin and myrrh to linger on the skin without demanding attention in a crowded lift.

The composition feels suited for a sunlit studio or a bright morning walk, where the fresh spicy and aromatic accords can breathe in the open air. However, the initial chemical bite remains a persistent flaw that never fully disappears into the balsamic warmth. Olivier Durbano crafted a scent that stays personal and close, but that opening sting is a price you pay every time you apply it.
