Our take

Peach in Bitter Peach never actually turns bitter, whatever the name promises. It's ripe and juicy from the start, backed by blood orange and cardamom that add a spiced, slightly boozy edge, and heliotrope gives the whole opening a powdery, almond-like softness. Cardamom in particular keeps resurfacing between the fruit and the boozy heart that follows, a spiced thread tying the two halves together.

Rum, cognac, davana and jasmine take over in the heart, genuinely boozy and warm rather than fruity, and that's where the name starts making a little more sense.

Vanilla, patchouli, tonka bean, sandalwood, benzoin, cashmeran, styrax, labdanum and vetiver build an enormous, balsamic base that clings to fabric long after you've stopped noticing it on your own skin, and the sillage holds a snug presence around the wearer, warm and easy to live with.

It suits fall and winter best, built around a sweet, boozy warmth more than a crisp, fruity one. Peach lovers hoping for something crisp and fruity all the way through should know the base takes over completely, patchouli and balsamic resins pushing the fruit almost out of the picture by the end. What starts as a fruit note ends as something much closer to a boozy, resinous amber.
