The name promises something sharp, and Rose Prick delivers on it: Sichuan pepper and turmeric open the fragrance with a tingling, slightly earthy heat before any rose appears at all. Tom Ford rarely plays it safe with rose, and this is no exception, turmeric giving the opening an unexpected golden, spiced cast.
May rose, Bulgarian rose and Turkish rose arrive together in the heart, three variations on the same flower layered until the rose reads deep and slightly jammy, far from delicate. Guillaume Flavigny clearly wanted volume here, stacking rose on rose until the flower turns dense and a little brooding.
Patchouli and tonka bean settle the drydown into something warm and earthy, giving the rose real weight and a grounded, slightly bitter edge. Once it settles it grips and does not let go, longevity a genuine strength, and projection holds at a modest bubble, present without pushing outward.
It's a rose for people who find most rose fragrances too soft, spiced and slightly bitter here, closer to a bramble than a bouquet. Wear it when the occasion calls for a rose with real bite.
