Our take

Tobacco Oud Intense opens with a blast of castoreum and oud that feels less like a gentleman’s club and more like a saddle soaked in rum, left too long in a smokehouse. The tobacco note doesn’t lounge in a humidor; it wrestles with labdanum and a ragged patchouli that turns leathery, then sugary, then bitter in the space of a breath. Tonka and amber try to smooth the corners, but the coriander and cedar keep things splintery, raw. The drydown settles into a thick, syrupy amber-woody base where the sweetness of tobacco and tonka finally submits to a dry oud and sandalwood that lingers like a bruise you keep pressing.

This is a heavy, almost confrontational scent. It feels more niche in intent than in execution: the materials are dense and layered, but there is a synthetic, cloying edge to the sweetness that stops it from being truly luxurious. The performance is a beast, with longevity well past eight hours and sillage that fills a room, though the projection dials back after the first hour, which is merciful. It needs cold weather winter air to keep from turning into a headache. It suits a man or woman who wants to be noticed and doesn’t mind polarizing a crowd. Skip this if you prefer clean vetivers or anything that whispers. Wear it for a late dinner in November when the fog is thick and you want your presence to feel like a closed door. The image that sticks: a worn leather armchair by a dying fire, the ashtray spilling over, and no one is invited to sit.
