Beau De Jour Eau de Parfum from Tom Ford builds its whole opening around lavender, doubled up as both an extract and the plain note, so it comes across sharp and herbal rather than soft or powdery. The doubling makes the lavender feel almost concentrated, sharper than a single lavender note usually manages alone.
Oakmoss, rosemary, mint, basil and geranium fill out the heart, green and slightly bitter, holding the composition firmly in classic aromatic ground, with the mint adding a cool, sharp lift on top of the greener herbs, and basil adding a faint anise-like edge alongside them.
Patchouli and amber take over by the base, dry and warm without much sugar, so the whole arc runs from sharp herbs to a quiet, earthy finish. It lasts well, the patchouli-amber base outlasting the lavender opening by a wide margin and staying firm without thinning out early.
Its trail forms a contained bubble, reaching anyone standing reasonably near without pushing further. Spring suits it well, and daytime wear gives the green, herbal opening room to breathe before the drier base takes hold.
