Our take

Dear Polly opens on crisp bergamot and apple, the kind of clean fruit-citrus combination that leans autumnal despite the citrus, before black tea moves in and adds a dry, slightly tannic edge that cuts through the fruit's sweetness. Jérôme Epinette keeps the whole top and heart restrained, nothing shouting, low and even, which makes the shift into the base feel dramatic once it finally happens. There's a real sense of quiet build here, patient in a way most fragrances built around an apple note rarely bother with.

Black amber, musk and oakmoss turn the drydown mossy and a touch animalic, a genuinely unexpected turn for something that opened this clean, and the shift from bright fruit to something almost feral is the best thing about the fragrance. Sillage stays modest, noticed mostly by the wearer and anyone standing close, and it lasts a reasonable while without demanding much upkeep. It suits spring and summer particularly well, worn where the fruit can shine early and the mossy base can surface later without clashing with heat. Restrained on paper, Dear Polly hides a strange, mossy twist in its base that most clean citrus florals never attempt.
