Our take

Northern Flicker leans heavily on its mint opening, and that choice will divide wearers immediately. The spearmint and peppermint arrive bright and cool, but they carry a synthetic edge that scratches at the nose rather than soothing it. Hedione and bergamot try to lift the blend into something airy, yet the mint refuses to soften its sharp corners.

Poplar buds and black currant leaf push the scent into a damp, resinous thicket. Canadian pine and balsam fir add a sap-like stickiness that clings to fabric and skin for an extended period. Tobacco and cloves warm the center, though the clove sometimes reads as dusty powder next to the wet greenery. White ginger lily offers a faint floral lift that disappears whenever the pine surges forward.

Thailand oud and Java vetiver root the base in dark earth, while labdanum and amber oil spread a golden, slightly animalic warmth. White musk and black musk sit near the body, creating a personal haze that follows the wearer without extending far into the surrounding air. Hiba and pine tree keep the drydown firmly in the woods, even as the amber deepens.

Sunlight through a canopy of tall trees suits this scent perfectly, with dappled warmth meeting cool shade. The mint never fully integrates with the resinous heart, leaving a jagged seam that keeps Northern Flicker from feeling like a complete thought.
