R.E.M. Cherry Eclipse
Fragrance notes
Character
R.E.M. Cherry Eclipse opens with a sharp, almost candied black cherry that has all the sticky sweetness of a maraschino syringe. The honeysuckle barely registers beside it, a pale ghost in the fruit. But then the marshmallow floods in, powdery and soft, dragging the cherry into a plush, pink cloud. The jasmine sambac peeks through as a slightly waxy white floral, but the whole affair is anchored by a clean musk and a whisper of amber that never gets quite warm enough to feel like skin. The overall impression is a stack of cherry-scented powder puffs left on a vanity under a fluorescent light. It is sweet, synthetic in the way drugstore body sprays are synthetic, and unapologetically mainstream. You will smell it, and then you will not smell it. The numbers back that up: longevity limps along at a 2.81, sillage hovers around a 2.31, barely a trace after an hour. This is a fragrance for a teenager fresh from a roller rink, arm looped with her best friend, giggling through a spring afternoon. It suits the daytime, the sunlit hours, the quick joy. Skip it if you want depth, complexity, or anything that lingers. Cherry Eclipse is a single-use Happy Meal toy, not a keepsake.
