L’Eau Super Majeure d’Issey opens with a bright, herb-dusted citrus slap—clary sage and rosemary cutting through the lemon like a cold sea breeze. The heart is where it finds its voice: a salty, cashmeran-soaked driftwood accord that feels like standing on a foggy beach at dawn, wet sand underfoot and the distant tang of iodine. Then the base comes in with a whisper of smoke, a touch of tonka’s sweetness, and a leather note that never quite commits to being dirty. The result is a woody aquatic that tries to be both fresh and cozy, but lands somewhere in between, like a sea-salted driftwood fire that keeps threatening to catch but never fully roars.
It is a pleasant, largely synthetic composition—mainstream in execution, but elevated by a thoughtful balance of marine and amber. The problem is performance. With a longevity of 3.38 and sillage barely scraping 2.88, you get about three hours of modest presence before it retreats into a skin-level vanilla-leather haze. Who is this for? The guy who wants a subtle, office-safe spring scent that doesn’t announce itself. Skip it if you crave depth or projection. Best worn on a mild April afternoon, sleeves rolled up, a light jacket on. A gentle fragrance, but sometimes gentle means forgettable.
