Our take

Oudh Nawab opens with turmeric, black pepper, and bergamot. The turmeric brings an earthy, slightly bitter edge that immediately sets this apart from sweeter spice blends. Black pepper adds a sharp bite, while bergamot lifts the entrance with a clean citrus brightness that keeps the heavy materials from overwhelming the start.

The heart centers on oud, cardamom, cinnamon, fig, dates, myrrh, allspice, and saffron. Oud provides a resinous wood character that anchors the middle. Cinnamon and allspice add warmth, while fig and dates contribute a dense, dark fruit sweetness. Saffron threads a leathery, slightly metallic glow through the spices, and myrrh deepens the resinous feel.

The base rests on tonka bean, labdanum, vetiver, benzoin, patchouli, ambergris, musk, and frankincense. Tonka bean and benzoin bring a soft vanilla-like sweetness that blends with the amber weight of labdanum. Vetiver and patchouli add earthy roots, while frankincense and ambergris give a smoky, mineral finish. Musk smooths the edges so the transition feels continuous rather than layered.

This is a fragrance for heavy sweaters and wool coats, for rooms lit by a single lamp and filled with wood smoke and the smell of dried fruit steeping in spiced tea.
